Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation or ECMHC is a method of supporting the healthy social-emotional development of young children. Quality Start ECMHC is provided free of charge to child care centers participating in Quality Start or in the Act 3 network pilot program. Quality Start early childhood mental health consultants are all licensed mental health professionals with specialized training in infant and early childhood mental health. They also participate in intensive and ongoing training and supervision in early childhood mental health consultation. There are currently 12 consultants providing ECMHC services across the state. The Tulane Institute of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health administers the program.
